OUR MISSION

Our mission is to join God in the renewal of all things. The three movements below describe how we actually live that out, the rhythms and practices that shape us and send us into the world.

Our postures describe how we position ourselves to live our mission. Each one is brought to life through spiritual practices, things we do that open us to God's work of transformation in our lives and in the world.

Our Beliefs

These beliefs reflect our convictions as a congregation affiliated with the Free Methodist Church in Canada.

  • We believe in one living and true God, the maker and sustainer of all things. The one God eternally exists as three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one in deity, eternity, and purpose, infinite in power, wisdom, goodness, and love.

  • The Bible is God’s written Word, uniquely inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is the trustworthy record of God’s revelation, completely truthful in all it affirms. It has been faithfully preserved and proves itself true in human experience. The Scriptures have come to us through human authors who wrote, as God moved them, in the languages and literary forms of their times. God continues, by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, to speak through this Word to each generation and culture.

  • God created human beings in God’s own image, innocent, morally free and responsible to choose between good and evil, right and wrong. Through the Fall, human nature became corrupted by sin, so that from birth we are inclined toward sin and unable, by our own strength, to restore ourselves to a right relationship with God or earn salvation. Yet by God’s grace and help, we are able to respond in faith and live lives of love and good works. Because every person is created by God and bears God’s image, all people possess inherent dignity, worth, and rights, regardless of sex, race, or ethnicity.

  • The Church is the people of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit to participate in the purposes of God in Christ. It is a living community, not an unchanging institution, shaped by Scripture and continually dependent upon the Spirit. As the body of Christ, the Church is called to embody God’s holy love and participate in God’s redemptive work, bearing witness to the renewal of all things in Christ.

  • A new life and a right relationship with God are made possible through the redemptive acts of God in Jesus Christ. As believers surrender to God in faith and die to self through full consecration, the Holy Spirit fills them with love and purifies them from sin. This sanctifying relationship with God remedies the divided mind, redirects the heart to God, and empowers believers to please and serve God in their daily lives. Thus, God sets His people free to love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love their neighbour as themselves.

  • The kingdom is realized now as God’s reign is established in the hearts and lives of believers. The Church by its prayers, example, and proclamation of the Gospel, is the appointed and appropriate instrument of God in building God’s kingdom.

    The Kingdom is also future and is related to the return of Christ when judgment will fall upon the present order. The enemies of Christ will be subdued; the reign of God will be established; a total cosmic renewal shall occur; and the hope of the redeemed will be fully realized.

  • The resurrection of Christ is the guarantee of resurrection unto life to those who are in Him. Our eternal condition is dependent on our response to God’s offer of salvation in Christ. All who finally refuse God’s grace will suffer the consequences of total separation from God. All who obediently trust Jesus as Lord will receive eternal life, glory, and communion with the Triune God and all God’s people in the unified new heaven and new earth.

Wesleyan Distinctives

Our theology and practices are influenced by our Wesleyan tradition.

  • Our approach to answering questions about Christian belief and practice. Scripture is the foundation and standard for what we believe and practice. Our theology is grounded in sound biblical teaching.

    We also turn to tradition, reason, and experience to clarify our understanding. They function as cooperative partners in our interpretation of Scripture.

  • We believe God is actively at work in the world, drawing people towards God and bringing about restoration and redemption.

  • We believe the saving work of Christ in our lives makes it possible to experience healing from our sin and to live redeemed lives by God’s strength.

  • We believe salvation is available to all people, and all people are responsible to respond to God’s invitation of new life.

  • We value shared leadership of women and men in all roles of church life.

  • We believe in a wholistic faith that moves us to engage with matters of injustice in our world and work towards justice.

  • Water baptism is a sacrament of the Church. It is a sign of God’s gracious work among us and a symbol of the new covenant grace. Free Methodists practice child baptism and believer baptism, holding together God’s gracious initiative and our necessary response of faith. Child baptism emphasizes that God’s grace is at work before we are able to respond and affirms the child’s belonging within the community of faith. Believer’s baptism emphasizes our response to God’s grace through repentance and faith. It is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and a sign of the new life we have received in Christ.

  • The Lord’s Supper is a sacrament of our redemption by Christ’s death. The supper is also a sign of the love and unity that Christians have among ourselves. We practice an open table, where all who desire to experience the love of Jesus are welcome to participate. 

Treaty Acknowledgement

We acknowledge with gratitude that our lives of worship and service are rooted in Treaty 6 territory and the Homeland of the Métis. We offer our respect and thanks to the Indigenous peoples of this land, we remind ourselves of the long history of the covenant-making Creator at work in this place, and we commit ourselves to the hard work of truth-telling and reconciliation that is part of God’s renewal of all things.
