Baptism FAQ

Here at Lakeview Church, we practice two baptism traditions: child baptism and believer's baptism. We do this because we believe both practices have value and that diversity deepens our understanding of faith.​​ 

Lakeview Church is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church in Canada, and together we attempt to embrace both dimensions of Christian Baptism. 

  • CHILD BAPTISM is a family's declaration of their submission to the mission of God. It proclaims: "We say; 'YES' by declaring Jesus as Lord and we are committing to His body, the church."

  • BELIEVER BAPTISM is an individual's declaration of their submission to the mission of God. It proclaims: "I say; 'YES' by declaring Jesus as Lord and I am committing to His body, the church."

  • CHILD DEDICATION is a family's declaration of their commitment to raise their child in the ways of Jesus, trusting that one day that child will choose believer baptism as an expression of their personal faith in Jesus.

FAQ’s

  • Baptism is a sacred ceremony that uses water to welcomed a person into the Church, marking the beginning of a journey of faith. In baptism we say YES to Jesus, declaring our trust in Jesus as Lord. In baptism we also identify with Christ’s death and resurrection, as a follower of Jesus we have risen with him in newness of life.

  • Baptism is a sacrament of the Church. It is a sign of God’s gracious work among us and a symbol of the new covenant of grace.

  • Free Methodists practice child baptism and believer baptism, holding together God’s gracious initiative and our necessary response of faith.

    Child baptism emphasizes that God’s grace is at work before we are able to respond and affirms the child’s belonging within the community of faith.

    Believer’s baptism emphasizes our response to God’s grace through repentance and faith. It is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and a sign of the new life we have received in Christ.
