What Is Ministry?

It's an unusual word that you don't often hear everyday, or ever, and can be perceived as a "church" word. Ministry is how we serve each other whether it's at Lakeview Church, in your community, or globally. It can look vastly different, whether it's taking care of children, painting a wall, or singing. The number of possibilities to serve is really infinite so if you are interested in helping out, just let us know by contact Gloria on staff. To get an idea of how you can help out, check out the opportunities to serve page. Or check out the ministries in this connecting area to see what interests you most.

DEFINITION:
(Greek "diakonos" = "to serve")

"Ministry is using whatever God has given me to serve him and the needs of others"

We Minister in 3 Directions

  • To the Lord (worship)      (Acts 13:2)
  • To other believers      (Heb. 6:10)

We Minister to 3 Areas of Need

  • To people's physical needs.

"(God says) I was hungry and you fed me...thirsty and you gave me a drink...needed clothes and you clothed me...sick and you cared for me...in prison and you visited me...Whenever you have done this to the least person, you did it to me."
Matt. 25:35-36,40

"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones...he will certainly not lose his reward."
Matt. 10:42

  • To people's emotional needs.

"... warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."
1 Thess 5:14

  • To people's spiritual needs.

"...God who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. "
2 Cor 5:18

"We proclaim Christ, counseling and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ. "
Col. 1:28, 29
