Tell us about your family?
My husband, Dale, and I have been married for almost 30 years. Dale teaches multi-media at Warman High School, and also does some tech stuff at the church. We have lots of kids – Quintin, an electrician, is married to Dorinda, an early childhood educator; Nathan, who is finishing off his Masters in Engineering Physics, is married to Renee, who is a dispatcher at Shaw Cable; Carmen; Brandon is 17, in Grade 12 and has plans for a future in the medical field. Kristyn is 15 and aspires to own her own business someday. Darcy, who is 22, is our “adopted” son. I work part-time as an Operating Room nurse when I’m not at the church.
If you were a superhero, what would your name be?
Mighty Mom.
On a scale of 1-10, how badly do you need coffee in the morning?
Does the scale go into the negative? I’ve never quite learned to appreciate the attraction or the taste.
What’s your least favourite word, phrase or sentence?
“You can’t . . . . .”
Hypothetically speaking (because Saskatoon is of course the finest city in the world), if you could live anywhere else, where would that be?
I’d alternate between east Africa and the southern U.S.
What’s your favourite holiday of the year?
Christmas – we’ve got lots of family traditions around it.
What’s your favourite TV show?
We only just recently got TV again, after an absence of about 10 years, so I’m still discovering what there is on. I like CSI and ER and So You Think You Can Dance. Last week, I watched The Amazing Race for the first time, and I think I’ll like that too. I love 24, but I only watch each season in a marathon session on DVD, cause I could never stand to wait a whole week to see what happens next.
What’s your most embarrassing moment?
I was ridiculously pregnant with my third child when we were invited to a wedding reception for our youth pastor. We were late arriving and I was trying to hustle my 2- and 3-year-old inside, while balancing a booster seat under each arm. I waddled into the main door of the hall just as the M.C. announced, “Please rise and welcome the happy couple”. Everyone stood, started applauding, then burst out laughing, including the bride and groom, who had come around the corner right behind me!
What recharges your batteries?
A really good night’s sleep.
What’s your favourite part about the ministry/job you do?
Seeing volunteers serving and being fulfilled in the areas of their gifting and how each of them intertwine to make an awesome and effective kids’ program; seeing kids genuinely excited and happy about coming to church; praying a prayer of commitment with a child who has wants to ask Jesus into their heart.
What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the last year?
I can never remember the names of movies.
How would you describe the Edmonton Oilers? A great team, or the greatest team? Please explain.
They’ve not been the same since Wayne left. Hmm, downgraded to great.
What’s the best book you’re read in the last year?
The Introvert Advantage – it helped me understand myself a lot better, and gave me words to explain what we’re like to the other side.
What’s your favorite food?
Chocolate.
How did you come to know Christ?
I was 7 years old and sitting in the old Saskatoon Arena at a Leighton Ford crusade when he gave the invitation to come forward and ask Jesus to be your Saviour. I was too shy to go forward, but I clearly remember praying the prayer where I was seated. It was very real.
Recent favourite sites on the web?
I have to admit I’m not a surfer, but this summer, while my daughter was in India on a missions trip, I checked their website out every day for updates. That’s www.tmi.org.
