The Core Values at Lakeview Church

The following value statements represent the core of all that we do and all that we are at Lakeview Church. People who are part of our church community will...

Know that Jesus Christ is Saviour.

  • Jn 3:14-15; Acts 4:12

Eternal salvation of the human soul is possible only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through faith in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we find God’s grace to receive the gift of eternal salvation.

Experience the Lordship of Christ in their daily lives.

  • 2 Cor 5:15; Jn 15:1-17

Christian perfection is commanded by Jesus and is made possible when we respond to God’s grace by personally accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. We become fully devoted followers of Jesus when we begin to realize the Lordship of Jesus in our lives.

Use Scripture as the basis and final authority for living a Christian life.

  • 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21; John 10:34-36

The Bible is the special and divine revelation of God’s plan and truth for all people. It is in and through the Bible that we learn about and meet Jesus Christ. It is the basis for all Christian preaching and teaching and we as believers need to be obedient to all that the Bible teaches in matters of ministry and life.

See that worship is foundational to who we are and everything we do as a church.

  • Jn 4:24; 1 Chron 16:29; Deut 6:13

Worship is more than just attending celebration services at Lakeview. It is about cultivating an on-going deep and intimate relationship with God through Christ. It is also about fully understanding the immense gap between the divine and the human and our need for the gift of God’s Son sent to bridge that gap. It is about understanding who we are as God’s people and who God is in His fullness.

Lead a disciplined Christian life as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ

  • Mt 5:3-12 “The Beatitudes”;Mt 16:24; Lk 14:26-27, 33

The practice of the corporate and private disciplines of the faith as passed on to us by the Saints past and present is essential for believers at LFMC. Spiritual growth and maturity (as evident by the Fruit of the Spirit, Gal 5:22-23 and ascension on the Ladder of Faith, 2 Peter 1:5-7) will come by Grace when we as individual believers and as a body of believers deepen and broaden the practices of the disciplines of the faith and yield to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

See the need to be fully equipped for God’s service.

  • 1 Peter 5:2

In the course of leadership development, teaching and preaching, Lakeview Church will assist, lead, and cooperate fully with the Holy Spirit to fully equip all believers in whatever knowledge, skills and resources the people require to enable and empower them to be in God’s service. It is also important in the life of the church that each believer, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, use his/her gift(s) to build up the Body of Christ in whatever capacity God has willed.

Know that believers are a bridge between God and a lost world.

  • 2 Cor 5:16-21

As Christ’s ambassadors, we have been given the ministry of reconciliation so that we can be witnesses to the work of Christ for those who are seeking God’s hope, peace and love. It is important that we be sensitive to the human and spiritual needs of all and that we continue to be culturally relevant yet remain doctrinally sound. We value the dignitiy of all people yet we are not ashamed to preach the gospel. It is essential that all believers are committed to developing authentic relationships with seekers.

Experience true biblical community and real life change within small groups

  • Mt 18:20

Authentic sharing, caring, accountability and the meeting of human and spiritual needs happens when people are connected to a small group (a church within a church). It is also important that these small groups are connected to the larger body via a well-established and intentional network of communication and relationships.

Minister in small groups / teams

  • Moses and Aaron, Ex 4:16

  • Ruth and Naomi, Book of Ruth
  • Caleb and Joshua, Nu 14:6
  • Elijah and Elisha, 2 Ki 2:6
  • Seventy sent forth two by two, Lk 10:1
  • Paul and Barnabas, Acts 13:2
  • Paul and Silas, Acts 15:40

We cannot be alone in doing ministry. We need the gifts of others, working and serving together, to best fulfil God’s commandments in the life of the church. Team ministry is a crucial element in kingdom building and in fulfilling God’s unique mission and vision for Lakeview. Thus, it is important that all believers see the importance of team work, team building and team learning in all ministry areas.
